The PAWES Engineering Research Center (ERC) planning grant, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), is dedicated to building a collaborative framework and interdisciplinary research capacity to address grand challenges related to optimization of energy resources, water conservation and environmental sustainability.

Led by the University of Tennessee with partners at the University of Puerto Rico, the planning project is bringing together experts in the fields of civil and environmental engineering, microbiology, chemistry, environmental policy, economics, and public outreach together with community members and industry stakeholders to establish a network for supporting transformative research at the energy-water nexus.
